Kate Martin is officially in Miami, Florida, along with the rest of the athletes who will usher in the first season of Unrivaled. Martin narrated a video that summarized the league's media day and was shared on TikTok by her team, the Laces Basketball Club.
Martin quickly takes fans through the Unrivaled environment. She first met all the players and staff who "are part of this special first season" before being usher into the court. "The lights, the colors, it's amazing," Martin continued.
The group then toured the weight room and the recovery areas ("[I'm] hoping I won't spend too much time in there," she said") befoer moving on to the locker rooms, where the team saw their jerseys for the first time. "They're so clean," Martin added. "Best in the league, no doubt."
Unrivaled is the first 3x3 women's basketball league of its kind
The 3x3 women's basketball league Unrivaled was launched by Breanna Stewart (New York Liberty) and Napheesa Collier (Minnesota Lynx) in 2023 as an option for WNBA players who don't want to travel overseas to play in the offseason. The first season will begin on January 17, 2025.
Unrivaled games will be played on a full court with two ends and will be made up of four seven-minute quarters. This is different from the traditional half court FIBA 3x3 format that is played in one ten-minute segment. The court is also smaller than the WNBA's — it measures 70 feet instead of 94.
The first season will last 9 weeks, including the playoffs.
