Like a lot of teams, the Golden State Valkyries announced the upcoming broadcast and streaming schedule for the 2025 season on Thursday, March 20. Unlike some teams, the news was great for the brand-new team, who will have 17 of their games broadcast nationally on ABC, Prime Video, CBS, CBS Sports Network, ION, and NBATV. The team will also announce a local broadcast partner at a later date.
Additionally, the Valkyries' first game against the Los Angeles Sparks is one of those 17 games, which will give the team the opportunity to show a lot of people what they can do.
How the 2025 national broadcast schedule helps the Valkyries
As a new team, there was no set guarantee that the Golden State Valkyries would have many of their games broadcast on national TV, and having 17 feels like a sign that the WNBA believes there will be fans at home watching. It's also clear the WNBA is playing it slightly safe (the games that will be broadcast are mostly against marquee opponents such as the Fever, Sky, and the Aces), but that isn't a bad thing — it just means that, like most of us, the WNBA is sitting back, ready and waiting for the Valkyries to prove themselves on the court.
The schedule also gives each player on the team the opportunity to build a relationship with a broader, national audience. This will be especially helpful for the team's international players, many of whom are new to the United States and the WNBA.
